Site Specific Health, Safety and Environmental Plan <br /> 19 <br /> <br />5.0 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements <br />Refer to Section 7 of this site-specific HSE Plan for details concerning PPE needs for this project. <br />In general, SLR field work will require the following mandatory PPE. <br />• ANSI Z41-1991 approved steel toe boots <br />• ANSI Z87.1-1989 approved safety glasses with side shields <br />• Reflective / High visibility vest (or included stitched onto coveralls) <br />• Leather gloves (on your person ready for use) <br />Be sure to consider the following potential PPE needs based on project risks or client requirements. <br />• Hearing protection (ear plugs or ear muffs required for drilling, excavations, etc.) <br />• ANSI Z89.1-1986 approved hardhat with side impact protection <br />• Chemical Resistant Gloves (appropriate to the chemical hazards present) <br />• Chemical Resistant Coveralls or Apron (appropriate to the chemical hazards present) <br />• Puncture Resistant Gloves (when handling sharp objects) <br />• High Temperature Rated Gloves (when working near hot surfaces or handling hot materials) <br />• Boots equipped with meta-tarsal protection (when working where falling / rolling objects are present) <br />• Boots equipped with steel shanks (when walking on sharp objects) <br />• Personal Fall Protection System (including full body harness, lanyard, deceleration device, and anchorage) <br />• NIOSH approved ½ face air purifying respirator with Organic/HEPA cartridges <br />• Other NIOSH approved respirator (filtering face-piece, tight-fitting full-face, powered-air-purifying, etc.) <br />• Fire-retardant coveralls (i.e. Nomex) <br />• Personal Floatation Device (when working in or around water deep enough for the PFD to work) <br />• Cold Weather Gear (Required on the Alaska North Slope between October 1st and May 1st) <br />• Traction spikes for Boots (when walking in icy conditions) <br />• Knee Pads (any functions the require crawling or consistent kneeling) <br />• Hip or Chest Waders <br />6.0 HSE Guiding Principles <br />The following HSE guiding principles are paramount on SLR projects: <br />• Injuries and occupational illnesses are preventable. <br />• Safety is fundamental to the conduct of our business. <br />• Employee involvement, feedback, and recognition are fundamental to safety. <br />• Safe behavior is doing the job right. <br />• Workplace risk will be reduced in the following priority: <br />1. Engineering controls; <br />2. Administrative controls and operating practices; <br />3. Personal protective equipment. <br />• Management is responsible for visibly and consistently establishing safety as a core value.
