Health and Safety Plan
17 West Washington Street, Stockton, California 95202
461803

Page 5
5.0 PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
This section of the HASP is used for the identification and selection of the appropriate PPE. The
protective equipment will be selected based on the contaminant type(s), concentration(s) in air
(if any), standing liquid (if any), or other applicable matrix (e.g., soil, sludge, sediment, etc.) and
the known route(s) of entry into the human body.
The highest level of protection that is anticipated for any of the planned work tasks is Level D
Protection.
Table 6: General Level of Protection
Task Number as Defined in Section 1.1 Level of Protection
A B C Mod D D
Task No. 1 – Drilling and Subsurface Sampling ܆܆ ܆ ܆ ܆ ܈

Air monitoring during Task 1 for VOCs will be periodic during the purging of groundwater from
the monitoring wells during groundwater sampling. Screening of the collected purge
groundwater and air monitoring in the workers breathing zone using a PID is required (see Section
6.0 for specific monitoring procedures and required equipment).
Key:
Level D: Long sleeve natural fiber shirt; long pants (natural fiber); hard hat; eye protection;
hearing protection (as needed); and safety shoes.
Level D Modified: Level D protection plus additional skin protection (e.g., protective coveralls,
personal flotation device as required; and appropriate hand protection).
Level C: Level D (Modified) protection plus negative pressure respiratory protection with
combination cartridges (VOCs and particulates); chemical protective coveralls in lieu of general
coveralls; use of inner and (butyl or vinyl disposal gloves) outer sets of hand protection (Nitrile
outer gloves).
Level B: Level C protection plus Pressure-demand supplied air respirator with escape bottle in
lieu of negative pressure respirator; chemical resistant coveralls with hood; chemical resistant
boots.
Level A: Level B protection plus fully encapsulating (gas tight) chemically resistant suit.
