Gloria Alvarez
Environmental Services Coordinator
Sutter Tracy Community Hospital
1420 N. Tracy Blvd.
Tracy, CA 95376
Re: Medical Waste Management Plan
Gloria,
Thank you for sending Sutter Tracy's Standard Policies and Procedures (apparently being
submitted as your mandatory Medical Waste Management Plan) regarding the Guide for
Safe Operation of the San -I -Pak Sterilizer and the charts being used to monitor the
sterilization process. There are still some issues that need to be addressed regarding the
above-mentioned information.
It appears the concerns mentioned in the Environmental Health Department (EHD),
6/25/04, Medical Waste Inspection Report stating that every load reach the minimum
temperature of 250 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of 30 minutes is still not included in
the Medical Waste Management Plan. There is also no mention about what steps will be
taken when a load of medical waste does not achieve the required minimum time and
temperature. Both of these issues must be contained within the Medical Waste
Management Plan.
The charts submitted for the monitoring of the sterilization process are a huge step in the
right direction; however, upon review it appears some of the loads are still not reaching
the minimum requirements mentioned above. The entries in question have been
highlighted and are being returned for your review and clarification.
Please submit a completed Medical Waste Management Plan that includes the
procedures mentioned above and submit to this office along with an explanation of the
sheets in question to my attention by August 20, 2004.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Si cerely, €
Kasey L.
