Policy: <br />Purpose: <br />Procedure: <br />STERILITY CHECK FOR SAM -I -PAC STERILIZER <br />Once a week the San-I-Pac sterilizer will be monitored by <br />placing an Attest vial in a routine load of waste. The Attest <br />vial will be retrieved and checked for no growth. <br />Confirm the ability of the sterilizer to kill pathogenic micro- <br />organisms when specified instructions are followed for the <br />sterilization of waste materila. <br />1. Identify the indicator by noting the sterilizer and processing <br />date. <br />2. Place the indicator vial in a red syringe container. <br />3. Place the container in the center of the waste to be steril"ized. <br />4. Process the load as per instructions. <br />5. Allow the material to cool. <br />6. Retrieve the container and remove the Attest vial. <br />7. Fill out a Microbiology II slip with date processed on slip. <br />8. Take sterilized vial and slip to the Laboratory. <br />9. Laboratory will process the vial according to instructions. <br />10. A written report of the culture will be returned to the Housekeeping <br />Department at the end of 48 hours. If growth occurs, Housekeeping <br />will be phoned. <br />11. If notified of a positive culture the check will be repeated <br />in the next run. If still positive, the manufacturer will be <br />notified. <br />Attacnt Va <br />
