Chemical germicides that are approved for use
as "hospital disinfectants" that are
tuberculocidal when used at recommended
dilutions can be used to decontaminate spills
of blood, other body fluids, and other medical
waste. Visible material should first be
removed and then the area should be
decontaminated. With large spills of cultured
or concentrated infectious agents in the
laboratory, the contaminated area should be
flooded with a liquid germicide before
cleaning, then decontaminated with fresh
germicidal chemical. In any setting, Body -
Fluid Precautions will be observed during the
cleaning and decontaminating procedures.
Protective equipment, to include gloves,
masks/ protective eye wear/face shields, and
gowns/aprons are worn when handling medical
waste.
As previously indicated, Tracy Hospital has
contracted with an outside provider to
transport and dispose of our medical waste.
This contract service is only required during
an equipment failure.
If you require further information concerning our waste management
policy,•please do not hesitate to call.
Dan Bilbrey
Director of General Services
Tracy Community Memorial Hospital
