Pacific EcoRisk Environmental Consulting and Testing
1. INTRODUCTION
GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc. (GeoAnalytical) has contracted Pacific EcoRisk (PER) to
conduct a definitive-level California Title 22 hazardous waste acute toxicity evaluation of a
waste sample designated Soil-la. This evaluation consisted of performing 96-hour acute toxicity
testing with juvenile fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas). This report describes the
performance and results of this testing.
2. TOXICITY TEST PROCEDURES
This testing followed the guidelines established by the California Dept. of Fish & Game manual
"Static Acute Bioassay Procedures for Hazardous Waste Sample" (Polisini and Miller 1988),
with additional guidelines as provided by the California Dept. of Health Services (Janna White,
personal communication).
2.1 Sample Receipt and Handling
A waste sample, designated Soil-la, was delivered to the PER testing laboratory on May 5, 2022,
where it was placed under refrigeration at 4°C until being used to prepare the test solutions. The
chain-of-custody record for the collection and delivery of this'waste sample is provided in
Appendix A.
2.2 Preparation of the Test Media
The Lab Water Control medium consisted of synthetic US EPA soft water, prepared by the
addition of reagent grade salts to Type 1 lab water (reverse-osmosis de-ionized water). The waste
sample was homogenized, after which sub-samples of the waste were mixed with the Lab Water
Control medium for six hours using a rotary mixer. After mixing, these waste media solutions
were used to prepare test solutions at sample concentrations of 250, 400, 500, 600, and 750
mg/L.
Page 1
4/15 qi>
