nnovative <br /> onstruction <br /> olufions <br /> • Drainage away from storm drains or surface waters or other means of containment shall <br /> be provided to control spills . <br /> • Adequate natural or mechanical ventilation shall be provided to maintain the <br /> concentration of flammable vapor at or below 10 percent of the lower flammable limit . <br /> • Dispensing of flammable liquids from one container to another shall be done only when <br /> containers are electrically interconnected ( bonded ) . <br /> • Dispensing flammable or combustible liquids by means of air pressure on the container <br /> or portable tanks is prohibited . <br /> • Dispensing devices and nozzles for flammable liquids shall be of an approved type . <br /> • Fuel cans must be properly labeled for the type of fuel being dispensed . <br /> 4 . 2 . 15 VEHICLE TRAFFIC <br /> Work will be conducted within an exclusion zone on site partitioned of using chain link <br /> fencing . Traffic is not permitted within the work zone . <br /> 4 . 2 . 16 BIOLOGICAL <br /> 4 . 2 . 17 HUMAN DERIVED WASTE <br /> Many disease - causing agents are potentially present in human derived waste . These <br /> organisms include bacteria , viruses , fungi and parasites . Most illnesses associated with <br /> human derived waste exposure produce mild to severe flu - like or cold - like symptoms . <br /> However, more serious illnesses , such as Hepatitis A, can be contracted through direct <br /> contact ( mouth , eyes , nose, and ears ) with human derived waste . Since microorganisms <br /> can cause disease by entering the body through the mouth , eyes, ears , nose , or through <br /> cuts and abrasions to the skin , proper hygiene , and appropriate personal protective <br /> equipment ( PPE ) must be utilized when the potential for direct contact with human <br /> derived waste is possible . <br /> Proper Hygiene <br /> Wear waterproof gloves <br /> Wash your hands thoroughly after clean up work . Use plenty of soap , scrub for at least 30 <br /> seconds, and rinse thoroughly . The California Department of Health Services states : <br /> " frequent, routine hand washing is the most important safeguard in preventing infection <br /> by agents present in sewage . " <br /> Do not touch fecal matter or raw sewage with bare hands . Wear waterproof gloves and <br /> use an instrument such as tongs or a spade when direct contact with fecal material is <br /> necessary . <br /> Do not touch your nose , mouth eyes or ears with your hands unless you have just washed . <br /> 30 <br />
