)rial
tal
September 29, 1998
46
Kasey Foley, R.E.H.S.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Ave., Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Dear Kasey,
CJ
975 South Fairmont Avenue
P.O. Box 3004
Lodi, California 95241-1908
(209) 334-3411
FAX (209) 368-3745
I am sending new and revised information regarding the handling of medical waste at Lodi Memorial
Hospital facilities. This material begins with MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN, an overview of the
program that will perhaps be satisfactory to meet the requirements as described in the Medical Waste
Management Act booklet from Department of Health Services.
Also included is the second section, MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES. This section is a
more completed detail of guidelines for practices and processes specifically developed for use by
Environmental Services staff. The third section, MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES;
INFECTION CONTROL SUBSECTION, is intended for use primarily by nursing staff in patient care areas
that are not needing all of the information used by Environmental Services staff.
As discussed, longer is not always better. For that reason I felt it necessary to develop the three
sections, each to address certain groups or needs, yet be consistent in material while simplifying the
staff operation manuals. A complete set of these documents is provided for your information only and
not necessarily to be accepted as a total composite for the MWMP form.
Earlier material sent for review and approval consisted of the second section only, MEDICAL WASTE
MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES. I believe clarifications requested have been made in the sections as
needed. The requests for information should have been met with the exception of that for a copy of the
contract agreement with Delta Pathology. I am unable to provide this contract for review by others
beyond Lodi Memorial Hospital or Delta Pathology. I appreciate your understanding of this and the
nature of the contract agreements.
Please call with any questions you may have. I can be reached at 209 339-7668 and look forward to
talking with you again.
Respectfully,
Donna McCauley
Facilities Management
Copy: D. Matthews
R. Hernandez
T. Saito
