Medical waste collection tubs or carts are never used except to transport or store biohazardous
waste items.
E. LIMITED QUANTITY HAULING EXEMPTION
Staff in approve patient care areas such as Home Health Agency, Laboratory Services, Clinic Services,
etc., that provide extended health care services outside the confines of the hospital facility, are authorized
to provide limited hauling of small quantities of medical waste back to a designated facility for disposal.
Current list of authorized staff members is on file with copies of authorization provided to the individual
employee. Procedures for final disposal of this medical waste fall into the same categories as those in
place within the facility itself. Tracking documents remain on file for a period not less than three years.
F. STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE
Medical waste is not stored longer than 7 days. Storage is provided at locations outside the facility
building structure and is secured within a locked, fenced, and covered area preventing unauthorized
access. Shelter from the elements is provided. Warning signs are in place in both English and Spanish.
Environmental Service Technicians relocate the collected medical waste to the designated storage areas
for each facility as outlined in "Transporting Collected Medical Waste" above.
The Lodi Memorial Hospital organization utilizes contracted service providers to remove and dispose of
medical waste for all facilities. Manifest documentation is maintained in Facilities Management office.
