Sharps waste containers are exchanged for an empty one. The filled container is then placed into <br />the "Sharps Containers Only" collection tub in dirty utility rooms. The filled collection tubs are <br />taken directly to the locked storage area for offsite disposal by contracted service provider. <br />4. Suction containers are removed from source and placed into "Suction Containers Only" collection <br />tub in dirty utility rooms. The filled collection tubs are taken directly to the locked storage area for <br />offsite disposal by a contracted service provider. <br />5. Medical waste collection tubs or carts are never used except to transport or store biohazardous <br />waste items. <br />E. LIMITED QUANTITY HAULING EXEMPTION <br />Staff in approve patient care areas such as Home Health Agency, Laboratory Services, Clinic Services, <br />etc., that provide extended health care services outside the confines of the hospital facility, are authorized <br />to provide limited hauling of small quantities of medical waste back to a designated facility for disposal. <br />Current list of authorized staff members is on file with copies of authorization provided to the individual <br />employee. Procedures for final disposal of this medical waste fall into the same categories as those in <br />place within the facility itself. Tracking documents remain on file for a period not less than three years. <br />F. STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF MEDICAL WASTE <br />Medical waste is not stored longer than 7 days. Storage is provided at locations outside the facility <br />building structure and is secured within a locked, fenced, and covered area preventing unauthorized <br />access. Shelter from the elements is provided. Warning signs are in place in both English and Spanish. <br />Environmental Service Technicians relocate the collected medical waste to the designated storage areas <br />for each facility as outlined in "Transporting Collected Medical Waste" above. <br />The Lodi Memorial Hospital organization utilizes contracted service providers to remove and dispose of <br />medical waste for all facilities. Manifest documentation is maintained in Facilities Management office. <br />
