Lodi Memorial Hospital 8420-EC3-Section C2 <br />Facilities Management 0 0 Page C-1 of 10 <br />Environment of Care; Hazardous Materials and Wastes Management Revised: July, 2006 <br />FUNDAMENTALS <br />The mission of the Lodi Memorial Hospital organization is to appropriately manage medical waste at each health <br />care facility. The scope of the medical waste management program is determined for each facility by the volume <br />and type of medical waste generated. Consideration is given to appropriate space allocations, enclosures and <br />means to collect, store or treat medical waste at that facility. <br />Procedures are developed to comply with California Medical Waste Management Act, Department of Health <br />Services, Health and Safety Code Sections 117600-118360, and for management of medical waste generated by <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital, Lodi Memorial Hospital West, and all other facilities operated by the Lodi Memorial <br />Hospital organization. <br />These guidelines are provided to identify processes involved in the Medical Waste Management Plan. <br />TYPES OF MEDICAL WASTE <br />Medical waste generated or handled at a Lodi Memorial Hospital facility consists of biohazardous waste, sharps <br />waste and pharmaceutical waste. These wastes result from patient diagnosis or treatment where blood and <br />certain body fluids or other contaminates exists. Trauma scene waste may be collected at times when <br />ambulance service providers and other emergency responders deliver patients for medical attention. <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital does not generate PATHOLOGY WASTE. All human anatomical parts, surgery specimens <br />and tissues are transferred from the hospital by Smith -Kline Laboratories for analysis by Delta Pathology <br />Associates, 2291 W. March Lane, Ste. 179E, Stockton, CA 95207. After final processing, the specimens become <br />waste and are the responsibility of Delta Pathology Associates. <br />A. VOLUMES OF WASTE <br />The following information represents the estimated total pounds of medical waste removed for disposal <br />during a monthly period at each facility. <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital; WEST FACILITY......................................4,000 pounds per month <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital; MAIN FACILITY.......................................2,200 pounds per month <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital; CONRAD BUILDING...............................1,900 pounds per month <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital; ALL CLINIC FACILITIES.............................250 pounds per month <br />
