E <br />8. The medical waste carts are to be used only for the transport of <br />medical waste. Medical waste and regular waste must not be <br />transported together in the same container. <br />C. Sharps Disposal <br />Full sharps containers will be removed from the patient rooms and <br />areas by the environmental services staff. <br />2. Before removing the container the lid must be sealed and secured. <br />3. The sharps container will be placed in the soiled utility room. <br />4. Before transporting the sharps container the trash person will <br />inspect the container to ensure that it is properly sealed and secure. <br />5. All sharps containers must be placed in clear plastic bags and <br />transported as medical waste to the steam sterilizer/compactor <br />area. (The purpose of putting them in clear bags is to distinguish <br />them from other medical waste that will be sterilized and then <br />placed in the compactor). <br />6. In the Steam sterilizer/compactor area, the sharps containers are to <br />be placed in the medical waste storage tubs for pick up by a <br />licensed medical waste hauler.
