PPE Levels of Protection <br /> Level D (to be used at all times) is as follows: <br /> • Full-length pants and shirt; <br /> • Sturdy safety-toe work boots; <br /> • Hard hat; <br /> • Safety glasses. <br /> Modified Level D (used as appropriate) is as follows: <br /> • Regular Tyvek coveralls; <br /> • Outer gloves: leather, cotton, or nitrile; <br /> • Inner gloves: latex or nitrile; <br /> • Sturdy safety-toe work boots; <br /> • Hard hat; <br /> • Safety glasses. <br /> Level C(used as appropriate) is as follows: <br /> • Half-face air purifying, canister equipped respirator(NIOSH-approved) equipped with Organic Vapor/HEPA <br /> cartridges/filters; <br /> • Regular Tyvek coveralls; <br /> • Outer gloves: leather, cotton, or nitrile; <br /> • Inner gloves: latex or nitrile; <br /> • Sturdy safety-toe work boots; <br /> • Hard hat; <br /> • Safety glasses. <br /> Level 8 (used as appropriate) is as follows: <br /> • Positive-pressure, full-face piece, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or positive-pressure supplied <br /> air respirator with escape SCBA (NIOSH-approved); <br /> • Disposable chemical-resistant coveralls (Polycoated Tyvek); <br /> • Outer gloves: neoprene or nitrile; <br /> • Inner gloves: latex or nitrile; <br /> • Sturdy safety-toe work boots; <br /> • Petroleum-resistant covers over work boots; <br /> • Hard hat. <br /> Decontamination Procedures <br /> Drilling and sampling equipment will arrive decontaminated and clean. All downhole soil and groundwater sampling <br /> equipment (e.g., sampling tubes, split spoons, hand augers, Hydropunch, etc.), tools, purge pumps, water level <br /> indicators, etc. will be decontaminated before, between, and after use with Alconox or an equivalent phosphate- <br /> free detergent solution to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Decontamination of all sampling equipment will <br /> consist of submerging the equipment in a detergent solution bath and scrubbing it with dedicated brushes. The <br /> equipment will then be placed in a rinse bath and agitated.A second rinse bath should occur if needed. All drilling <br /> equipment such as augers and drilling rods should be thoroughly steam cleaned and rinsed. <br /> Nitrile outer gloves will be worn whenever handling samples, equipment, or any other potentially contaminated <br /> items.
