From: Alfonso Arambula [EH]
Sent: Monday, May 24, 2010 11:11 AM
To: 'gmoses@lodihealth. org'
Cc: Robert McClellon [EH]; Benjamin Escotto [EH]
Subject: Medical Waste Management Plan
Attachments: IMG_5144.jpg; IMG_5145.jpg; IMG_5146.jpg
Hello Gayle,
The medical waste management plan submitted on 5/21/10 has been reviewed and 4 areas require clarification
1.) The estimated total pounds of medical waste removed during a monthly period from each facility (D-8420-10,
Section III. Procedure, Subsection A) shows the West Facility generating 4,000 pounds per month. Is this an
accurate representation of estimated total pounds of medical waste removed at this Facility?
2.) On the Procedure for Medical Waste Segregation, Containment & Labeling - Section III, Subsection C. -
Instruction for All Chemotheraputic Waste, including sharps, is to be disposed in yellow collection containers
labeled with the words "Chemotherapy Waste" or "Chemo". The EHD requests that All Sharps be disposed in
sharps containers, if a sharp in a sharp container has been contaminated through contact with, or having
previously contained, chemotheraputic agents then the sharps container shall be segregated for storage, and,
when placed in a secondary container, that container shall be labeled with the words "Chemotherapy Waste" or
"Chemo".
3.) On the Procedure for Transporting Collected Medical Waste - Section Ill, Subsection C - states, "Some Types
of medical waste generated at the Main Facility are processed using an autoclaving biohazardous waste
sterilizer." The EHD requests subsection C and any other mention in the medical waste management plan
depicting treatment onsite to be removed from the MWMP to accurately show that no treatment of medical waste
is occurring onsite.
4.) Per Chapter 5 Section 117960 (j) of the Medical Waste Management Act - A statement certifying that the
information provided is complete and accurate was not found in the MWMP submitted on 5/21/10.
Please clarify issue number one and review and submitt a Medical Waste Management Plan (MWMP) to the
Environmental Health Department (EHD) with the changes mentioned above. If you have any questions or
concerns, feel free to contact me at my email or desk phone 209-468-9673.
Thank You,
Alfonso Arambula, REHS
Note: The photos taken during the inspection on May 21, 2010 are attached to this email
5/24/2010
