Box 1020 <br />Stockton, California 95201 <br />Section 71651 of Title 22, California Administrative Code, provides <br />that infectious hospital wastes shall be disposed of in an incin- <br />erator providing complete combustion. You have provided infor- <br />mation which indicates that this procedure is not practicable at <br />San Joaquin General Hospital. The Code provides that alternative <br />methods of waste disposal may be approved by the local health <br />officer. <br />The procedure you have described for disposal of microbiological <br />waste at the San Joaquin General Hospital Laboratory (autoclaving <br />of all contaminated materials, followed by disposition of solid <br />materials in a sanitary landfill) is hereby approved. A copy of <br />this procedure, dated March 20, 1981, as amended in January, 1983, <br />is attached for reference. This procedure will not jeopardize <br />the public health and safety. <br />J.
