Contaminated culture specimens and media <br />1. place all material .for disposal in autoclavable bags in containers <br />marked CONTAMINATED MATERIAL <br />2. Late dishwasher will pick up container, tie the bags, and load <br />material into autoclave. EXCEPTION: all material from the <br />the mycobacterium laboratory including the waste paper basket will <br />be taken to autoclave by Tech. who is already masked and gowned. <br />3. All material will be autoclaved 15 minutes, 15 lb. pressure, at <br />1210C. Indicator tape will be placed on all bags to insure that <br />material is decontaminated. <br />4. All fungus cultures are placed in a metal can marked "FUNGUS CULTURE" <br />These are autoclaved as above on 3 different days to insure decon- <br />tamination. The material is discarded into the garbage disposal <br />and the tubes washed for reuse <br />5. All material from Step 4 that is disposable is .to be placed in a <br />paper Ecolo Bag. These will line the red garbage cans used for <br />laboratory waste. When full the bags will be stapled shut and the <br />can removed to a sanitary landfill disposal site and. dumped <br />II. Blood specimens for Discard <br />1. These will be placed in waxed cartons in the laboratory department <br />2. The lab. dishwashers will pick up all cartons, cover and autoclave in <br />an autoclavable bag as for culture specimens <br />3. Discard will be as for culture specimens in the red garbage cans <br />III. Needles and syringes; <br />1. The needles and syringes will be destroyed after use in a BD Destruclip <br />2. They will be placed in a puncture proof container and autoclaved as for <br />culture specimens <br />3. Discard will be as for culture specimens in the Red Garbage Cans. <br />February 2, 1976 <br />
