I was joined for nearly the entire day by Paul Martinez, the EVS department manager, which made accessibility and training quick and easy. There
were several nursing huddles which gave me the opportunity to speak to a great number of nurses at the same time, also making my day much easier. This hospital
works in 3 shifts, 7am-3:30pm, 3pm-11:30pm and 10:30pm-7am. We began at 5am to reach the end of the night shift and finished at about 3:30pm finishing with the
mid -shift huddle. There were only 1 or 2 units I did not have security access to. I also left behind a poster to be authorized by the staff so they can distribute among
the nursing units. As of this time, they do not have Pyxis alerts in place. They do, however, have a sticker system from the pharmacy that seems to work. One thing I
recommend is dicussing with the nursing education the hospital policy regarding narcotics, as this issue was asked to me by a great number of nurses. When I told
them to adhere to hospital policy, noone seemed to know it. Overall, the visit was succesful and we were able to address important issues with segregation.
