Phoned Broadbent and Associates at SAETERN <br />530-570-6755, left a message. <br />Phoned Flying J 209-339-4066, and spoke to Matthew Duce (Matt), Store <br />Manager, who stated there was a 5-gallon diesel spill due to a malfunction of the <br />diesel pump on #28. Per Matt, the diesel has spilled onto the concrete pad and <br />oil-water separator. Clean-up was conducted by in-house staff who had applied <br />absorbents and placed the absorbents into a drum labeled as hazardous waste. <br />Updated M. Henry, Program Coordinator. <br />Arrived on-site and met with Matt Duce, Store Manager. Observed concrete pad <br />area cleaned. No standing liquid observed. Per Matt, they had placed absorbents <br />onto the diesel and swept the contaminated absorbents then place into a drum <br />and some diesel went into the oil-water separator. Degreaser was used afterwards <br />to remove any remaining residue follow by power washing the degreaser into the <br />oil-water separator. Observed the oil-water separator standing liquid and slug was <br />observed inside. Per Matt, there is at least 36 inches of air gap from the liquid and <br />outlet pipe. Matt requested to discuss with their Environmental Manager, Chip <br />Hughes. Per Chip, Environmental Manager, the oil-water separator is measured <br />daily and once it is near the 3,000 gallon capacity, cleaning will be schedule and <br />will be disposed as hazardous waste. <br />Clean up all released material and dispose of it under all appropriate waste <br />manifesting and waste disposal laws and regulations. The disposal of any <br />hazardous waste, or the causing thereof, is prohibited when the disposal is at a <br />facility which is not permitted or authorized for hazardous waste disposal. [HSC <br />25189.5 (a).] Please be aware that all hazardous waste shall be disposed of under <br />appropriate hazardous waste manifesting procedure [HSC 25160 (b)(3)]. Make a <br />hazardous waste determination for all waste materials and dispose of them as <br />required, and provide proof of correction and copies of waste disposal records to <br />the EHD. <br />Updated M.
