1XISto I F, I M• • .• <br />Other regulated Regulated waste shall be placed in containers which are: <br />waste - closable <br />containment - constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage of fluids during <br />handling, storage, transport or shipping <br />- labeled or color -coded <br />- closed prior to removal to prevent spillage or protrusion of contents during <br />handling, storage, transport, or shipping <br />If outside contamination of the regulated waste container occurs, it shall be placed in a <br />second container. The second container shall be: <br />- closable; <br />- constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage of fluids during <br />handling, storage, transport or shipping; <br />- labeled or color -coded <br />- closed prior to removal to prevent spillage or protrusion of contents during <br />handling, storage, transport, or shipping. <br />Trash and Items contaminated as regulated waste must be placed in bags that total 3 mils <br />disposable thickness of plastic (sealed) and transported/stored within the facility in a hard -sided <br />items container marked biohazard until transported for final processing. <br />Blood, Liquid blood, excretions, and secretions will be flushed into the toilet. <br />excretions, and <br />secretions All fluid-filled containers (e.g., suction canisters, hemovacs) may be emptied directly <br />into a hopper or toilet. Associates may need to wear protective attire to protect <br />themselves from splashes. <br />Disposable items soiled with moist body substances, visible blood, or feces from a <br />patient/resident known to have a disease that can be transmitted throuoh blood or <br />feces must be placed in 3 -mil plastic bags and a solution of one (1) part bleach and <br />nine (9) parts water or designated facility solution added to saturate the item or they <br />must be incinerated. <br />If fluid-filled containers are disposed of without emptying, follow the regulated waste <br />handling procedures of the facility. These procedures must utilize closable containers <br />that are leakproof and are either red or biohazard labeled.
