GnvironmentalInfecdon Control <br />Policy Statement <br />Medical waste containers shall be located throughout the facility and treatment areas. <br />Policy Interpretation and Implementation <br />1. Medical waste containers shall be located throughout the facility and treatment areas and must be kept <br />covered at all times. Designated individuals will be responsible for ensuring that containers are placed in <br />locations where needed. <br />2. Medical waste containers are located in the following areas of the facility: <br />3. Medical waste containers used by this facility will be: <br />a. Closable; <br />b. Constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage of fluids during handling, storage, transport or <br />shipping; <br />c. Labeled or color -coded in accordance with established policies governing the labeling ofcontainers; <br />d. Closed prior to removal from the facility, treatment areas, or from the premises to prevent spillage or <br />protrusion of contents during handling, storage, transport, or shipping; and <br />e. impermeable and capable of maintaining impermeability through final waste disposal. <br />4. A container that becomes contaminated must be placed in a second container, which must also meet the <br />requirements outlined in paragraph 3. <br />5.
