J.R. Simplot - Agribusiness Revision Number: 6
Simplot. Lathrop, CA Revision Date: 09/22/2022
Lab Manager: Jacob Staley Laboratory Analyst Review: Joel Mejia
Approval Date: 09/22/2022 Standard Operating Procedure Review Date: 09/22/2022
Procedure Number:
Lab Material Handling-R6 Lab Material Handling Page 1 of 7
Scope and Application
Some of the materials and chemicals used in the lab may be dangerous to personal safety
and/or hazardous to the environment and must be handled appropriately. This includes
receiving and storing material properly as well as disposing of used and unused materials in
a manner that protects personnel safety and the environment.
Health & Safety
1. Anyone handling any chemicals, reagents, and samples in the lab must be familiar with
their hazards and use the appropriated PPE and safety precautions for what is being
handled.
a. Each Lab Analyst should refer to individual SOPS and material Safety Data Sheets
(SDS's) for the proper PPE recommendations. SOPS can be found in the Lab SOP
Binder. SDSs for Simplot products can be found on the EHS&S page of the
company's internal website by clicking on the "Simplot SDS" link. SDSs for products
used in the lab can be found on the EHS&S page of the company's internal website
by clicking on the "3EOnline" link.
2. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
a. Standard Lab PPE includes safety glasses with side shields (prescription or generic),
long sleeves (shirt and/or Lab Coat), long pants, and closed toe shoes.
b. Additional PPE may include neoprene gloves, goggles, face shield, heavy duty apron,
heavy duty chemical gloves, and ear plugs.
c. If required to go out into the plants, additional PPE may be required such as hard hat,
steel toed shoes, and earplugs. Long sleeve shirts are a better choice than lab coats
since the long, trailing, lab coats may get caught and hinder evacuation if necessary.
+ ♦ o • + + + ♦ • + + r • rs • • • + • r • • + + + • + + + + • + ♦ + • + a + ♦ • + r • r + r • • + • r • • • • + r • •
♦ fir ' '
