6 of 14
Chemical Inventories and Safety Data Sheets
A detail list of the hazardous chemicals known to be present in the workplace are in the SDS
binder. This list may be by the product name, common name or chemical name as long as the
identity used on the list matches that used on the SDS and label so that it can be cross
referenced.
Refer to your SDS Binder and chemical list with all employees.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are developed by the chemical manufacturer to provide information
concerning safe use of the product. They provide workers and emergency personnel with
information about physical properties (melting point, boiling point, flash point, etc.), toxicity,
health effects, first aid measures, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill-
handling procedures. SDSs are required by law to be readily available for every hazardous
chemical at each worksite along with an up-to-date chemical inventory.
The 16 sections of the new SDS cover:
1 .
