Called Tara Hill with Solvone at (951) GARCIA-MEJIA
972-2694. Tara informed me that a maximum of 1.5 gallons of gasoline were spill
on concrete by a customer. The customer was fueling a U-Haul truck and did not
correctly place the fuel nozzle in the vehicle. Staff on site contained the spill with a
boom and absorbent pads. React was sprayed on the fuel spill. I requested that
Tara provide me with pictures of the spill and the link to the product that they used
(https://www.mycaf.com/react-rapid-response.html)
Spoke with fuel station manager, Gigi Granzen. Gigi corroborated the clean up
procedures that Tara mentioned to me. I asked Gigi if she could send me the SDS
for REACT as well as the standard operating procedures for Safeway for how they
address spills.
Issued notice to abate for failure to determine if a waste is a hazardous waste and
emailed it to Safeway Inc.'s environmental contact Keith Powers at
Keith.Powers@albertsons.com.
08/29/2022 Received call from Keith Powers (510-246-0358), environmental contact for
Safeway. Keith informed me that "manageable" spills are addressed with REACT
but anything that is not "manageable" would be addressed differently. I asked
Keith if he could provide me with the SDS for REACT as well as the training plan
that they have in place for manageable vs non-manageable spills. Received those
documents via email <Keith.Powers@albertsons.com>
Spoke with Lisa Barbosa with the Safeway fuel station. Lisa informed me that the
boom that was used was disposed of in the facility's hazardous waste drum.
Generated Prop65 and provided it to Genesis to be mailed out.
08/30/2022 Called the San Joaquin Air Valley District to refer complaint over to the assigned
inspector. Spoke with Sam Palmquist and informed him of the spill. Sam stated
that he would be looking into the regulations and see if that is something they
would pursue.
GARCIA-MEJIA
GARCIA-MEJIA
02/13/2023 Printed out all necessary forms and abated the complaint.
