A 50' x 100' sheen was observed near BAKER
Bacon Island Bridge at Lower Jones Rd. Two engines on an 80' foot barge broke
free causing the release.
Called complainant regarding release. SJC Sheriffs department was on site at
the time of the phone call. Per complainant there is a Burning Man type event
happening with a lot of boats that don't appear to be seaworthy. The sheen was
observed from the shore. One engine was taken out of the water and is hanging
over the water by a rope. Release is at the southwest corner of Mildred Island.
Coast Guard and Fish & Wildlife have been notified and will be on scene
tomorrow.
8:30 pm - 8:38 pm
07/30/2022 7:25 am- Left for site. Arrived on site at 8:00am. Drove both sides of Mildred
Island. No sheen observed. Approximately 20-30 boats observed on water in
location, mostly sailboats. Blue barge that allegedly caused the release observed
in location. No sheen observed in area. Boats too far away to discern if a sheen
is in the area of the boats.
8:21 am-Called Fish & Wildlife at 916-358-1312 and updated them with findings
and requested call back.
8:22 am-Called Coast Guard at 415-370-0043 and left voice message.
8:24-Left site.
8:50-Received return call from Fish and Wildlife (831-801-1095). Fish and Wildlife
is no longer concerned about release since it has dissipated and there are no
sunken boats.
Generated complaint, prop 65, emergency response record and photo log.
Forwarded spill report to Robert McClellan (Program Coordinator) and Natalia
Subbotnikova (Lead Sr. RENS).
7:25am-10:51am
BAKER
51 05. rpt
