DO NOT touch the spill material. Contain and absorb <br />spill with sand, earth, inert material or vermiculite. <br /> DO NOT USE WATER OR NEUTRALIZING AGENTS INDISCRIMINATELY ON LARGE SPILLS. <br />Regulatory Requirements: Follow applicable OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.120). <br />Section 7 - Handling and Storage <br />Handling Precautions: Avoid generating and breathing mist and vapor, breathing vapors and contact with skin and <br />eyes. <br /> Avoid physical damage to containers. Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear protective clothing and gloves when <br />handling containers. Handle and open container with care. <br /> WARNING: To avoid violent reaction, ALWAYS add material to water and NEVER water to material. When <br />handling, DO NOT eat, drink or smoke. Always wash hands with soap and water after handling. Work clothes should <br />be laundered separately. Use good occupational work practices. Observe manufacturer's storing and handling <br />recommendations. <br /> Atmosphere should be regularly checked against established exposure standards to ensure safe working conditions are <br />maintained. <br /> Local exhaust ventilation may be required for safe working, i.e. to keep exposures below required standards; <br />otherwise, PPE is required. <br /> Keep dry. Reacts violently with water. <br /> Transport containers on a trolley. Avoid sources of heat. DO NOT transfer gas from one cylinder to another. <br />Recommended Storage Methods: Packaging as recommended by manufacturer. Check that containers are clearly <br />labeled. <br /> Cylinder. Ensure the use of equipment rated for cylinder pressure. Ensure the use of compatible materials of <br />construction. Valve protection cap to be in place until cylinder is secured, connected. Cylinder must be properly <br />secured either in use or in storage. Cylinder valve must be closed when not in use or when empty. Segregate full from <br />empty cylinders. WARNING: Suckback into cylinder may result in rupture. Use back-flow preventive device in <br />piping. <br /> Hydrochloric acid: Packs of 2.5 litres or less require a child-resistant closure. Glass container or Plastic carboy or <br />Polylined drum. <br />Regulatory Requirements: Follow applicable OSHA regulations. <br />Section 8 - Exposure Controls / Personal Protection <br />Engineering Controls: If risk of overexposure exists, wear air supplied breathing apparatus. Provide adequate <br />ventilation in warehouse or closed storage areas. Use in a well-ventilated area. Local exhaust ventilation may be <br />required for safe working, i. e. , to keep exposures below required standards; otherwise, PPE is required. <br />If risk of inhalation or overexposure exists, wear NIOSH-approved respirator or work in fume hood. Hydrogen chloride <br />vapors will not be adequately absorbed by organic vapor respirators. <br />Personal Protective Clothing/Equipment: <br />Eyes: Chemical goggles. Full face shield. <br /> DO NOT wear contact lenses. Contact lenses pose a special hazard; soft contact lenses may absorb irritants and all <br />lenses concentrate them. <br />Hands/Feet: Neoprene gloves; rubber gloves. Nitrile gloves. <br /> Safety footwear. Rubber boots. <br /> Hydrochloric acid: Barrier cream and Neoprene gloves or Elbow length PVC gloves. Nitrile gloves. <br /> PVC boots or PVC safety gumboots. <br />Respiratory Protection: <br />Exposure Range >5 to <50 ppm: Air Purifying, Negative Pressure, Half Mask <br />Exposure Range 50 to unlimited ppm: Self-contained Breathing Apparatus, Pressure Demand, Full Face <br />Cartridge Color: white <br />Other: Ensure there is ready access to a safety shower; Eyewash unit. <br /> Acid-resistant overalls.
