Mr. Joseph Lipka
Forward Landfill
May 21, 2018
Page 2

After sampling, the cassette intakes were plugged, labeled with pertinent sampling information,
and shipped to ATEML for analysis. A chain of custody record, detailing the sample
identifications, date and time collected, analysis requested, and other pertinent information
accompanied the samples to the laboratory. ATEML analyzed the samples for asbestos fibers
using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) described in the National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method 7402 modified.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS
Sample collection was completed from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 20, 2018. Active
disposal activities occurred while monitoring was conducted. Meteorological data from
Stockton Airport which is located approximately 2 miles west-northwest of the Forward Landfill
was reviewed for April 20, 2018. The mean temperature on this date was 63 ºFahrenheit (ºF)
with a high of 80 ºF and a low of 47 ºF. The average wind speed for the day was 8 miles per
hour (mph) out of the west northwest with gusts up to 25 mph. The average relative humidity
was 63 percent. There was no measurable precipitation on April 20, 2018.
AIR MONITORING RESULTS
Laboratory reports and the executed chain-of-custody record are attached in Appendix B.
Analytical results for the April 2018 sampling program are summarized below.
SAMPLE
STATION

AVERAGE FLOW
RATE
(LITERS/MINUTE)
SAMPLE
VOLUME
(LITERS)
IDENTIFIED ASBESTOS
Fibers
(CHRYS./AMPH.)
CALCULATED ASBESTOS
STRUCTURE CONCENTRATION
(FIBERS PER CC AIR > 5µm Length)
A 2.50 1125 ND/ND <0. 0009
B 2.50 1113 ND/ND <0. 0009
C 2.40 1068 ND/ND <0. 0009
D 2.35 1058 ND/ND <0. 0009
E 2.20 1001 ND/ND <0. 0009

Notes: ND – None Detected
Chrys. – Chrysotile Asbestos
Amph. – Amphibole Asbestos
CC – Cubic Centimeter
µm – Micron

Asbestos fibers were not detected in any of the samples collected during April 2018 at a
reporting limit of 0.0009 fibers per cubic centimeter (f/cc) of air sampled.
