Lubrizol <br /> 21 March 2023 <br /> The Lubrizol Corporation ( Lubrizol ) is a manufacturer of additives commonly used in fuels and <br /> lubricants . In response to the changing light- duty vehicle industry, Costco is replacing their <br /> current gasoline additive, UltraZol ® 9888 to Lubrizol ' s new gasoline additive UltraZol ® GA9058 . <br /> These additives are based on chemical components that are already widely in use in the fuel <br /> and lubricant market today . <br /> Lubrizol conducts vigorous bench and screening testing on all their products . Our <br /> manufacturing plants conduct assessments on the chemistries found in our products to ensure <br /> they are compatible with all the materials the additive may encounter throughout our <br /> production facilities . The components used to formulate UltraZol GA9058 have passed a wide <br /> range of fuel industry tests and the chemistries have been in continuous use without reported <br /> problems to either fuel distribution or vehicle fuel systems or any known harm to engine parts <br /> or materials . <br /> Based on state and federal regulation codes for fuel and fuel additive products, specifically <br /> California Code of Regulations section 2631 ( k) and Federal Regulation CFR Title 40, Chapter 1, <br /> Subchapter 1, Part 280 . 32 ( b ) 91 ) ( ii ) a statement of material compatibility is needed for all <br /> primary and secondary containment, turbines, and fuel dispensing equipment . <br /> To further evaluate new fuel additives Lubrizol ' s testing facility conducted no harm comparative <br /> material compatibility soak testing in representative elastomers and metals that fuel additives <br /> may encounter . The aim is to ensure that our products will not result in unacceptable <br /> equipment damage which can also extend to the storage of the material and fuel dispensing <br /> equipment . <br /> We follow a propriety testing procedure where we expose pre - selected coupons of various <br /> elastomers and metals to predetermined conditions and measure the coupon response . <br /> Various measurements were taken and evaluated . Not all material composition were <br /> evaluated ; only materials considered vulnerable to gasoline and fuel additives . <br /> Lubrizol designed a comparative soak assessment of Costco ' s new additive , UltraZol GA9058 , to <br /> their current additive, Ultrazol 9888, which was conducted at ambient temperatures for 30 <br /> days . The results were compared against each other and not to a specific pass/fail limit or <br /> specification limit . The same changes were observed comparing UltraZol GA9058 to gasoline <br /> and UltraZol 9888 . <br /> Lubrizol does not anticipate any material compatibility or functionality constraints when all <br /> primary and secondary containment, turbines , and fuel dispensing equipment are properly <br /> designed , fabricated , and installed .
