Biological Resources Evaluation Report
Griffith Energy Project
3.4 Special-Status Plant and Wildlife Species
Methods
Special-status species are defined as plants and wildlife holding a status of sensitive, threatened,
endangered, rare, candidate, Species of Special Concern, Fully Protected, Watch List, or Birds of
Conservation Concern as defined by CDFW, USFWS, or California Native Plant Society (CNPS). Tetra
Tech conducted a literature review by reviewing CDFW's CNDDB RareFind 5 online database and CNPS'
online Inventory of Rare and Endangered Plants of California to identify special-status plant and wildlife
species that may exist within a USGS 9 Quadrangle search area (CDFW 2021a, CNPS 2021). Species
from the CNDDB and CNPS' online inventory that do not have habitat on the Project site are not carried
forward in the analysis.
Results
The Project site has the potential to contain habitat for the following species:
• CTS
• California red-legged frog (CRLF)
• California glossy snake (Arizona elegans occidentalis)
• San Joaquin coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum ruddocki)
• Coast horned lizard (Phrynosoma blainvillii)
• Grasshopper sparrow (Ammodramus savannarum)
• Short-eared owl (Asio flammeus)
• Burrowing owl (BUOW)
• Swainson's hawk
• Northern harrier(Circus hudsonius)
• California horned lark (Eremophila alpestris actia)
• Loggerhead shrike
• SJKF
• American badger
• Rare plants
All CNDDB occurrences within a 2-mile buffer around the Project site are shown in Figure 4. The potential
for each species to occur has been reviewed and updated based on the results of the field survey and is
provided in the special-status species results section of this report.
3.5 Critical Habitat
Methods
The USFWS Critical Habitat Portal was reviewed to identify final and proposed Critical Habitat for Federally
threatened and endangered species within the Project site and vicinity (USFWS 2021).
Results
The BSA is not located within designated or proposed Critical Habitat for listed plant or wildlife species.
Tetra Tech, Inc. 3-2 July 2023
