In response to your question regarding the bins.. paper and carboard bins were moved to the
commercial side. They will be placed back in the public side and mark. The bins for the green and wood waste are
located at the south side of the recycle center transfer truck loading area. When a customer with a load of wood or
green waste comes inside the recycle center with debris on their loads, our crew takes out all the debris and the rest of
the wood and green waste is put inside the 40 yards bins and then transfer to Oliveira's to be processed. See attached
phots.
In respect to the green waste area, you are correct. It is processed by Oliveira.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any more questions.
Thank you.
From: Backus, Garrett [EHD] <gbackus@sjgov.org>
Sent:Tuesday, April 25, 2023 12:20 PM
To: Garcia, Wilfrido [PW] <Wgarcia@sjgov.org>
Cc: Duenas, Robert [PW] <rduenas@sjgov.org>; Chavez, Diego [PW] <dgchavez@sjgov.org>; Gamez, Nat [PW]
<ngamez@sjgov.org>; Baier, William [PW] <bbaier@sjgov.org>; Baker-Warren,Joan [PW] <JBakerWarren@sjgov.org>;
Paniagua, Eliseo [PW] <empaniagua@sjgov.org>; Subbotnikova, Natalia [EHD] <nsubbotnikova@sjgov.org>
Subject: RE: Mixed Waste Samples
Hi Wilfrido,
I met with Diego today and did the monthly Recycling Center inspection. I have a few questions about waste that comes
to the Recycling Center tipping floor.
I did not see bins to recycle paper or cardboard or lumber or tree branches/brush. From what I observed it appears
that if these items are dumped on the Recycling Center tipping floor then it all gets transferred to the active face for
landfilling. Is this what happens?
Loads of tree branches/brush/stumps/grass are routed directly to the green waste area past the office area and
processed there by Olivera. Is this what happens?
I'm trying to get an idea of the waste flow and how it relates to the mixed waste organics sampling.
Thank you,
Garrett Backus, Lead Senior REHS
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
1
