Impett; John Funderburg
Subject: FW: Forward Landfill
0 M 0I
We were happy to see the Water Board took action against some of the nonsense that continues to
occur apparently on a regular basis over at Forward Landfill. A Notice of Violation in response to a
flagrant disregard of permitted regulations and rules is a good way to try and make them aware that
the County intends to make them compliant and hold their feet to the fire. We were disappointed
when a violation wasn't issued in regards to the unpermitted road building and notice that they have
continually not corrected the cited problems pertaining to cannery waste disposal including use of
such as alternative daily cover. It appears, that on a regular basis, your office calls the problems to
their attention but only notes them as "areas of concern." Statistically, it appears that the number of
violations issued from your office seems to be steadily declining while from our viewpoint, the
disregard for guidelines continues. Are they inspected on a frequent periodic basis? We know you
have seen the violation issued by the Water Board and hope that your office has the authority to issut
some sort of mandate similar to those taken from other agencies.
The windblown garbage, stink, early morning traffic congestion and disgusting roads are easily note4
by anyone who drives on Austin Road on any given day of the week, especially after it rains or on a
windy day. I simple drive by under those conditions should produce numerous violations. I'm
confident that upon closer inspection and more thorough examinations from your office, we might be
able to effect some kind of compliance on the part of the folks at the landfill. If areas of concern are
reported on a continual basis, where is the tipping point that the issue becomes a violation and
corrective action is instituted and enforced?
What prompted this letter today, our friends staying at 9606 Lynch Road have called us every day this
week complaining that the stench coming from the dump is forcing them to keep the windows and
doors closed in the house. They are unable to BBQ or swim with their grandchild outside it is so
