FORWARD LANDFILL
RESOURCE & RECOVERY
2013-2014 WINTERIZATION PLAN
November 1, 2013
1. Grinding Pad & Sorting Pad
The pad has been graded such that the water flows to the northwest corner. It is then collected in
a ditch and delivered to the sediment pond located at the west of the Resource & Recovery (R &
R) area.
2. Compost Pad
Composting activities are being performed on an approximately 10 -acre area. The composting
activities are limited to green waste materials.
3. Transfer Station
Operation of the R & R transfer station continues. The transfer of recyclables is done within the
twelve thousand square feet (12,000 sq) building located on the eastern end and middle (North-
South) of the R & R area. Rainwater from the roof of the building is directed from the down
spouts to the existing drain ditches and then to the sedimentation pond.
4. Sediment Pond
All non -contact water being directed to the R & R's sedimentation pond is sampled and analyzed
in accordance with Forward's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and Storm Water
Monitoring Plan. If the pond is at capacity and the stormwater samples comply with the
discharge requirements, non -contact water is discharged to the South Fork of Little Johns Creek.
A log is kept on site recording the volume of non -contact water discharged to the creek from the
pond.
5. Roads
All roads have been graded to provide a safe and stable surface for travel and to direct runoff to
the existing ditches that route to the sediment pond. Roads will be cleared of mud as needed to
prevent tracking onto Austin Road. Austin Road will be cleared, as needed, by sweeper truck or
water truck.
