HSC 118280(c) — Biohazardous waste, except as provided in subdivision (b), shall be bagged in accordance with <br /> subdivision (b) of Section 118275 and placed for storage, handling, or transport in a rigid container that may be <br /> disposable, reusable, or recyclable. Containers shall be leak resistant, have tight-fitting covers, and be kept clean and <br /> in good repair. Containers may be recycled with the approval of the enforcement agency. Containers may be of any <br /> color and shall be labeled with the words "Biohazardous Waste" or with the international biohazard symbol and the <br /> word "BIOHAZARD" on the lid and sides to be visible from any lateral direction. <br /> HSC 118280(e)(1)(A) - If the person generates 20 or more pounds of biohazardous waste per month, the person shall <br /> not contain or store that waste above 0° Centigrade (320 Fahrenheit) at an onsite location for more than seven days <br /> without obtaining prior written approval of the enforcement agency. <br /> OBSERVATIONS: <br /> 1. All sharps bins labeled as biohazardous waste within the designation accumulation area were open upon arrival. <br /> 2. Biohazardous bin was observed with a missing biohazard label on the side of the bin. —Corrected on site <br /> 3. Review of the medical waste tracking documents shows that biohazardous waste was stored on site for 2 weeks due to <br /> a bi-weekly pick-up schedule. <br /> CORRECTIVE ACTION: <br /> 1. Maintain all biohazardous waste bins covered with a tight-fitting cover to not allow release of contents if bins are to be <br /> handled or knocked over. Bins shall only be open when content is being disposed of into the bin. <br /> 2. Prevent storage of biohazardous waste on site for more than 7 days. Adjust hauling schedule to 7 days or less between <br /> pickups for biohazardous waste. Provide proof to EHD that pick-ups will occur every 7 days or less. <br /> Corrections due to EHD by 9/16/25. <br /> Notes: <br /> 1. Report emailed to Sheila Sexton-Desersa at ssexton(c shomg.net <br /> 2. During this inspection, an email was provided by Sheila Sexton-Desersa in which an inquiry was made to a <br /> representative of CDPH and clarification on the violation was made. Trace Chemotherapy waste can be placed into red <br /> biohazard bags. If yellow bags are seen, then ONLY trace chemotherapy waste can be in bag. Yellow bags are used to <br /> further segregate but not mandatory for chemotherapy waste. No violation given for red bag on this inspection report. <br /> 3. Medical waste tracking and treatment documents reviewed from Aug 2023 —Aug 2025. <br /> 4. Review of biohazard bags showed proper certification for ASTM D1709 and ASTM 1922. <br /> 5. Review of Medical Waste Tracking documents show that trace chemotherapy waste is picked up at the same time as <br /> biohazardous waste. Pharmaceutical waste is picked up 2-3 months apart. <br /> Reinspection on/about: A reinspection fee of$179 per hour may be charged. Page 2 of 2 <br /> E H-7/1/25 <br />
