<br />Lovelace Transfer Station Solid Waste Division <br />Worksite Emergency Plan Public Works Department <br />January 2020 San Joaquin County <br />5 <br />PREVENTION STEPS <br /> <br />Bi-Weekly Inspections <br /> <br />The AESC shall perform biweekly inspections of the Scale house, the Transfer Building, and the <br />Employee/Maintenance Facility for unsafe conditions. The biweekly inspections include the <br />following: <br /> <br /> Are exit doors marked? <br /> Are doors free of obstruction so they will open freely in an emergency? <br /> Are all fire extinguishers full, mounted, and readily accessible? <br /> Are First Aid Kits stocked and accessible? <br /> Are utility shut-offs accessible and unobstructed? <br /> Are the eye wash facilities working properly and unobstructed? <br /> Are walkways clear of obstruction? <br /> Are the lunchrooms free of toxic materials or other health hazards? <br /> Are there any spills that may be a hazard when walking? <br /> Are ladders in safe condition, and are ladder steps free of grease and oil? <br /> Are the step boxes stable? <br /> Are employees instructed to use safety devices? <br /> <br />See Figures 2 and 3 for the location of fire extinguishers, First Aid Kits, utility shut-offs and eye- <br />wash stations/showers. <br /> <br />Safety Procedures <br /> <br />Employees will wear the following safety equipment, as appropriate for the work tasks: <br /> <br /> Safety glasses, shields, or goggles when grinding metal or striking metal with a <br />hammer. <br /> Welding goggles or welding hood when welding or cutting or cutting metal. <br /> Gloves when working with sharpedge or cumbersome material. <br /> Face mask when working in a dusty environment, when under vehicles with falling dirt <br />particles, or when spray painting. <br /> <br />In addition, employees will put safety stands under vehicles held up by hydraulic floor jacks. <br /> <br /> <br />Training <br /> <br />The AESC shall review the WEP with all new employees soon after the start of their <br />employment. <br /> <br />The AESC shall review the WEP with all employees once a year. Suggestions for improving the <br />WEP shall be taken from the employees. The WEP shall be updated to reflect changes <br />
