Medical Waste Management Plan <br /> Kaiser Peimanente —Manteca Medical Center <br /> 1/01/2023-12/31/2023 <br /> • The Environmental Services(EVS) staff will collect these red bag waste after <br /> each patient has been discharged/relocated from these rooms. <br /> • Solid waste containers will be available in other areas throughout these <br /> departments. <br /> • This facility utilizes reusable/recyclable pharmaceutical sharps containers through <br /> our waste hauler-Stericycle Reusable Sharps Program. <br /> • Waste will be labeled on all sides and top to be visible from any lateral direction. <br /> • Reusable rigid carts/containers are used to transport medical waste from the <br /> department to the accumulation area. <br /> • All containers shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. <br /> • Transport carts/containers are lined with plastic liners and when liners are removed <br /> they are placed in a biohazardous bag. <br /> • Carts will be cleaned according to Environmental Services(EVS)/ Infection Control <br /> cleaning procedures for medical waste carts. <br /> ■ A person shall thoroughly wash and decontaminate reusable rigid carts/ <br /> containers for medical waste by a method approved by the enforcement agency <br /> each time they are emptied,unless the surfaces of the containers have been <br /> completely protected from contamination by disposable liners,bags, or other <br /> devices removed with the waste. <br /> ■ Approved methods of decontamination include,but are not limited to,agitation <br /> to remove visible soil combined with one of the following procedures: <br /> ■ Exposure to hot water of at least 82 degrees Centigrade(180 degrees Fahrenheit) <br /> for a minimum of 15 seconds. <br /> (b)Exposure to chemical sanitizer by rinsing with,or immersion in,one of the <br /> following for a minimum of three minutes: <br /> (1) Hypochlorite solution(500 ppm available chlorine). <br /> (2) Phenolic solution(500 ppm active agent). <br /> (3) Iodoform solution(100 ppm available iodine). <br /> (4)Quaternary ammonium solution (400 ppm active agent). <br /> (5)Pure Chlorine(500 ppm), Dilution of 5ml in 100 ml of water. <br /> (6)Oxycide(Peroxyacetic Acid/Hydrogen Peroxide)Concentrate <br /> The following materials are classified as medical waste: Container Requirements and Labeling Procedures: <br /> Sharps Waste-a dev ce that nas acute rigid corners,edges,or protuberances capable <br /> of cuttng or piercing including,but not limited to,hypodermic needles,hypodermic Shall be contained in a United States Food and Drug Administration(USFDA) <br /> needles w-th syringes,olades,needles with attached tubing,acupuncture needles,root approved sharps container that meets USFDA labeling requirements and is <br /> canal-Iles broken glass items used in health care such as Pasteur pipettes and blood handled pursuant to Section 118285."Sharps Waste",or the Biohazard symbol <br /> vials con Eminatec wit biohazardous waste,and any item capable of cutting or and the word"BIOHAZARD" <br /> piercing from trar.ma s,ene wEste. <br /> Pathological Waste-�uman body parts,with the exception of teeth,removed at Shall be segregated for storage and,when placed in a secondary container,that <br /> surgery ar d surgery specimens or tissues removed at surgery or autopsy that are container shall be labeled with the words"Pathology Waste","PATH",or other <br /> suspected by the bealh care professional of being contaminated with infectious agents label approved by the department on the lid and on the sides,so as to be visible <br /> krnowr to be contagioru to humans or having been fixed in formaldehyde or another from any lateral direction. <br /> fixativa. <br /> Biohazardous Waste—Regukated medical waste,clinical waste,or biomedical waste <br /> that is a waste or reusable ma-erial derived from the medical treatment of a human, Shall be placed in a biohazard bag conspicuously labeled with the words <br /> wh ich includes diagro:is and hnmunization;or from biomedical research,which "Biohazardous Waste"or with the international biohazard symbol and the word <br /> includ:s tte prodLctior and testing of biological products.
