Vapor Intrusion Assessment Work Plan Project number:60653972 <br /> • For each soil gas sample location, samples will be collected in laboratory supplied, individually <br /> certified 1-liter SUlVIlVIA canisters.New tubing will be utilized at each sampling point to avoid cross- <br /> contamination. <br /> • Duplicate soil gas samples will be collected at a rate of at least 1 per sample event or 10 percent, <br /> whichever is greater. <br /> • The SUMMA canister will be shipped to a qualified environmental laboratory for analysis of project- <br /> specific VOCs using USEPA Method TO-15. <br /> 4.5.2 Borehole Abandonment <br /> Upon completion of vapor intrusion investigation, each borehole will be properly abandoned by <br /> backfilling with soils cuttings and the surface will be restored to as close to pre-construction conditions as <br /> reasonable. <br /> 4.5.3 Laboratory Analysis <br /> Samples will be analyzed for helium and VOCs by ASTM Modified Method D-1946 and USEPA <br /> Methods TO-15 in accordance with Table 2. <br /> 4.6 Decontamination Procedures <br /> Workers will wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating and when exiting the work <br /> zone. They will clean-up the site and equipment and then thoroughly wash their hands and faces when <br /> work activities are completed. <br /> Site personnel may become contaminated during the course of field activities.Following are possible <br /> avenues: <br /> • Contacting airborne vapors,gases,mists,or particulates; <br /> • Contacting splashed materials or walking through puddles; <br /> • Handling contaminated soils and equipment, <br /> • Sitting or kneeling on contaminated soils or liquids; and <br /> • Using contaminated instruments or equipment. <br /> Although PPE and good work practices protect field personnel from direct contact and reduce the <br /> contamination of PPE, instruments,and equipment, contamination cannot be avoided completely. <br /> Contaminants can be transferred to clean areas and offsite,potentially exposing unprotected field <br /> personnel and the public.To prevent such occurrences,general and site-specific safety rules,training, and <br /> decontamination procedures will be implemented at the Site. <br /> General cleaning requirements for field instruments(tapes,meters, etc.)include, at a minimum,wiping <br /> down equipment body,probes and cables with detergent solution and rinsing thoroughly with tap water. <br /> Reusable equipment will be decontaminated either by steam cleaning or by washing, or by a series of <br /> washings,using an industrial detergent and water solution, followed by a series of rinsing using generous <br /> amounts of water.To avoid cross-contaminating reusable sampling equipment, it may be necessary to <br /> employ a decontamination solution rinse followed by a series of potable water rinses and a final de- <br /> ionized water rinse.The rinse water will be collected in clean containers for appropriate disposal. <br /> Prepared for: California Regional Water Quality Control Board,Central Valley Region AECOM <br />
