Vapor Intrusion Assessment Work Plan Project number:60653972 <br /> 5.3.5 Laboratory Control Samples <br /> An LCS analysis will be performed by the laboratory daily or per analytical batch,whichever is more <br /> frequent.An LCS is a blank reagent spike containing analytes at a specified concentration,usually in the <br /> mid-calibration range. The LCS undergoes the entire sample preparation and analysis process to <br /> demonstrate that the method/instrument is stable and operating within acceptable accuracy limits. <br /> 5.3.6 Surrogate Spikes <br /> Surrogate spike analyses are used to determine the efficiency of analyte recovery in organic sample <br /> preparation and analyses. Surrogate standards are added to organic standards, samples,and blanks and <br /> must go through the full preparation process. Surrogate spike recoveries must fall within the limits <br /> established by the project to ensure efficiency of the method analysis. <br /> 5.3.7 Laboratory Failures <br /> Laboratory failures include equipment malfunction,failure of internal QA/QC checks, failure of <br /> performance of system audits, and non-compliance with QA requirements. The failure event is <br /> documented by the laboratory on a non-conformance/corrective action form and submitted to the <br /> laboratory QA officer for review and resolution.Non-conformance reports and other QC anomalies will <br /> be submitted on the case narrative with the final data package from the laboratory.The project or program <br /> chemist will be informed of failures that affect project samples. <br /> 5.3.8 Sample Preservation <br /> Sample preservation is instrumental in maintaining integrity of the samples from the time of collection <br /> until the analyses are performed. Therefore,the samples will be preserved during collection and storage to <br /> prevent or retard degradation or modification of the chemicals in the samples. See Table 4. <br /> 5.4 Sample Collection and Quality Control <br /> The quality of data collected in an environmental study is critically dependent upon the quality and <br /> thoroughness of field sampling activities. Considering the sensitivity of analytical methods and the levels <br /> of detection specified for contaminant analyses,the sampling process becomes integral to the quality of <br /> data generated.As a result, general field operations and practices and specific sample collection and <br /> inventory will be carefully implemented and documented. Section 4 of this Work Plan describes the <br /> sampling program. <br /> 5.4.1 Sample Containers,Volumes, and Preservation <br /> Table 4 summarizes the sample container,preservation method, and holding time requirements for <br /> analytical samples,respectively. <br /> 5.4.2 Field Data and Sample Documentation Procedures <br /> Field personnel are responsible for the use and maintenance of field notebooks when conducting project- <br /> related field work.Field notebooks provide a means for recording data collection activities performed at a <br /> Site.Field notebooks are intended to provide sufficient data and observation notes to enable participants <br /> to reconstruct events that occur during site activities.Entries should be as factual, detailed, and <br /> descriptive as possible so that a particular situation can be reconstructed without reliance on the <br /> collector's memory. Field notebooks are not to be used as a sole source of project or sampling <br /> information,nor should they be used for recording opinions or any other inappropriate terminology.Field <br /> notebooks will be completed with consecutively numbered pages.Notebooks will be permanently <br /> assigned to field personnel. <br /> The cover of each notebook will include the following information: <br /> Prepared for: California Regional Water Quality Control Board,Central Valley Region AECOM <br />
