Water Quality Measurements Field Standard Operating Procedure
SWE-FSOP-101;Revision 1 Ahtna Southwest Environmental Operations
be taken by simply immersing the probe(s) in the water body or container. The probe used is the same or
similar to that used during low-flow sampling; therefore, calibration and probe handling procedures
described in Section 4.1 should be followed, as well as the manufacturer's manual for instrument-specific
instructions. Note: When performing open-probe measurements, the flow-through protective covering
should be in place to protect the probe surface from potential impacts, contact with sediments, etc.
Refer to FSOP-404.00 Open Water Sampling and appropriate health and safety procedures when
performing measurements and sampling in open bodies of water.
5.0 Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Conduct the 3-Phases of Quality Control Method described in the project work plans.
Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) procedures for water quality parameters and field
documentation review will be performed by the FTL or PL to check that procedures and documentation
content and level of detail comply with this SOP. If a deficiency or a variance was taken to the SOP,the PL
should document the deficiency/variance and determine the need for corrective action in coordination
with the QA Manager.
6.0 Documentation Review
The FTL is responsible for daily review of the activities performed at the site and fieldwork documentation
for compliance with requirements (Section 4.0) and legibility. Errors and omissions should be explained
and revisions to an entry signed and dated by the FTL.
7.0 References
YSI Pro Plus Manual:
https://www.ysi.com/File%20Library/Documents/Manuals/605596-YSI-ProPIus-User-Manual-RevD.pdf
Horiba U-50 Manual:
https://static.horiba.com/fileadmin/Horiba/Products/Process and Environmental/Water Pollution/Inst
ruction Manuals/U-50/U-50 Manual.pdf
