Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan <br />The Home Depot Store #5857 <br />3 Organization, Responsibilities, and Duties <br />3.1 Emergency Coordinators <br />The Emergency Coordinator for the Site is responsible for directing response to any Site emergency, and for <br />communicating reportable hazardous waste incidents to the appropriate officials. The Emergency Coordinator or <br />designee will contact 3E, The Home Depot's 24-hour emergency call center, and 3E will inform appropriate <br />agencies and clean-up contractors. Table 3-1 lists the names, addresses, and phone numbers (business and cell) <br />of associates qualified to act as the Emergency Coordinator. The Emergency Coordinator is always on -store or <br />on-call to manage emergency response measures in the event of a fire, explosion, or any unplanned sudden or <br />non -sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents. The Emergency Coordinator has the <br />authority to commit the resources necessary to carry out the Contingency Plan, <br />Emergency Coordinator duties include: <br />• Conducting weekly inspections of the HHMA CSA and monthly inspections of the emergency equipment; <br />• Responding to spills, fires, or explosions involving hazardous waste as necessary to protect life, property, and <br />the environment; <br />• Identifying the character, exact source, amount, and extent of any released material(s); <br />• Assessing possible hazards to human health or the environment that may result from the release, fire, or <br />explosion; <br />• Providing appropriate internal and external notifications; <br />• Providing guidance to responding firefighting crews and coordinate the activities of support agencies; <br />• Taking reasonable measures necessary during the emergency to ensure that fire, explosion, and release <br />does not occur, recur, or spread to other hazardous waste at the Site including where applicable, stopping <br />processes and operations, collecting and containing released waste, and removing or isolating containers of <br />waste; <br />• Monitoring for leaks, pressure buildup, gas generation, or ruptures in valves, pipes, or other equipment if the <br />facility stops operations in response to an emergency; <br />• Evacuating site personnel if necessary; and <br />• Conducting follow-up actions including filing required written reports and Site cleanup. <br />The Emergency Coordinator or designee may delegate any response steps necessary to respond to an <br />emergency situation. <br />Emergency Coordinators are trained according to Site policies and procedures, as well as the Resource <br />Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials <br />regulations. <br />7 <br />
