HHM Program, Training Class Descriptions
All Store Associates receive initial hazardous waste -related training at the beginning of employment. Other
designated Store Associates (i.e. salaried managers, hourly key carrying associates, all department
supervisors, and receiving associates) receive additional training beyond the orientation class to provide
further instruction for additional spill response, storage, and labeling considerations. An annual refresher is
aIso given.
• Class #4265 —HHM Orientation and Employees Right -to -Know: The goal of Class #4265 is to
provide a system for and instruction on how to handle hazardous materials and hazardous waste at
The Home Depot stores. The class has been designed to comply with or exceed applicable local,
state, and federal regulations for hazardous materials and waste management, including Employee
Right4o-Know considerations for hazardous materials. The class outlines the various hazardous
materials and waste streams typically found in The Home Depot stores, instructs Store Associates
on what to do in case an unknown material or waste is identified, and specifies what personal
protective equipment should be used to minimize exposures. The class also provides department -
specific and general store -wide hazardous materials and waste procedures, which include
instruction for waste collection, labeling, storage, shipping, and disposal as well as inspections,
managing damaged containers, identifying and reporting spills/releases, and HHM Program -related
recordkeeping.
• Class #4266 —Training for Designated HHM Associates: Continuation of Class #4265. The
class is designed to provide additional instruction to designated employees (i.e, store manager,
salaried management, hourly key carrying associates, department supervisors, and receiving
associates) regarding overseeing spill/release clean-up, labeling, and storage processes.
• Class #4267 —Transporting Hazardous Materials: The goal of Class #4267 is to teach
associates of their responses as they relate to packing, repacking, handling, labeling, marking,
placarding, shipping, and transporting hazardous materials. The class is designed to meet
regulatory requirements for transporting hazardous materials as well as providing safety to our
associates, our customers, and other affected individuals. Course objectives for the associate
include identifying Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines; identifying and preparing
hazardous materials before packaging, shipping, or transport; explaining and completing necessary
hazardous materials paperwork; packaging hazardous materials that will be shipped or transported;
and identifying the procedures for loading or segregating hazardous materials.
• Annual Safety Training: The goal of Annual Safety Training is to provide annual instruction to
Store Associates regarding The Home Depot's safety policies and procedures. These policies and
procedures, which are integrated into The Home Depot's Core Values, are related to job
responsibility, back injury prevention, personal protective equipment, equipment safety,
merchandise safety, hazardous materials, and emergency preparedness. The hazardous materials
portion of the instruction provides Store Associates an overview of the HHM Program, including
hazardous material and waste identification, roles and responsibilities, safety data sheet (SDS)
access, waste disposal, spill response, and waste minimization. The emergency preparedness
portion of the instruction outlines reporting/notification protocol, evacuation procedures, and fire
protection systems related to accident response, fire safety, severe weather, and bomb threats.
HHM Program training completion lists can be obtained from The Nome Depot's training administration
system.
• HHM Orientation — Class 4265
• Designated HHM Associates — Class 4266
• Transporting Hazardous Materials — Class 4267
• Annual Safety Training
