1
Cruz, Alexander [EHD]
From:Verstl, Richard - Arbor Rehab & Nursing Center <RVerstl@covenantcare.com>
Sent:Wednesday, May 21, 2025 8:23 AM
To:Cruz, Alexander [EHD]
Subject:RE: Regarding Your Stericycle Request - Reference 16632159 [ ref:!00Df4023wCj.!
500VJ0Uapyu:ref ]
Importance:High
Hi Alexander,
Thank you for following up.
1. Regarding the missing medical waste manifests: After reviewing the dates in question, I followed up with
Stericycle and was informed that the scheduled pick-up did not occur within the 7-day window due to the
holidays. I have since clarified with Stericycle that, per our contract and regulatory requirements, at least one
mandatory pick-up must occur within each 7-day period regardless of holidays. I instructed them that if a pick-
up must occur a day earlier to remain compliant, then it needs to be scheduled accordingly moving forward.
2. Concerning the pharmaceutical containers (white bins with blue lids): The larger bins you referenced are no
longer in use at our facility. We have transitioned to using only the smaller blue-lidded containers, which are
properly labeled for incineration on all required sides.
3. As for the IV fluid bags: All sharps, including needles, are removed and disposed of in designated sharps
containers. The IV bags themselves are placed in the blue-lid pharmaceutical containers without any sharps
attached.
Please let me know if any further clarification or documentation is needed.

Richard Verstl
Director of Maintenance (EVS)
Covenant Care-Central Valley
209-445-0234
rverstl@covenantcare.com

From: Cruz, Alexander [EHD] <acruz@sjgov.org>
Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 2:15 PM
To: Verstl, Richard - Arbor Rehab & Nursing Center <RVerstl@covenantcare.com>
Subject: RE: Regarding Your Stericycle Request - Reference 16632159 [ ref:!00Df4023wCj.!500VJ0Uapyu:ref ]

Good afternoon Richard,

Emailing again to receive a response for my previous email.

Thank you.

Alexander Cruz
Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
