Geosyntec
consultants
2. WELL MAINTENANCE
Geosyntec's proposed approach for the RRI 2025 monitoring well maintenance activities include
the following activities for the Site 3, Site 4, and Site 49 Central Area and UST 817B Central Area
proposed OUs, to address outstanding well maintenance activities described in the 2024 GMR:
• Resurvey the TOC elevation of 10 monitoring wells (EW-001, EW-002, W-025,
W-091, W-093, W-094, W-096, W-097, W-248, and W-276) where existing TOC
elevation data is greater than 10 years old and the well is planned to be gauged in 2025.
• Redevelopment of monitoring wells W-091, W-093, and W-095 located at Site 3 that
were noted to have obstructions that prevented well redevelopment in 2024.
• Destroy and subsequently replace monitoring wells W-101 (Site 3) and W-342 (Site 4)
noted as having compromised well screens in 2024.
• Determine if monitoring wells P-113A, W-238, W-239, W-267, and 120-MW1,
previously noted as unable to locate or unable to locate due to equipment, are able to
be located with hand-held global positioning system(GPS)unit.
• Install quick response(QR)codes on monitoring well W-341,which was not able to be
accessed to apply the QR code in 2024.
The proposed activities for each well are listed in Table 1 and shown in Figure 3. In addition,
minor well repairs noted during field activities, including well box repairs (e.g.,bolt replacement)
or replacement, well cap(i.e.,j-plug)replacement, as well as monitoring well protection measures
will be implemented on an as needed basis for monitoring wells associated with Site 3, Site 4, and/
or Central Area OUs.
Monitoring wells in the Landfill Area are not included in the proposed 2025 field season well
maintenance activities because construction is currently being conducted in the Landfill Area. Due
to the construction activities, the Landfill Area is currently regulated under a Habitat Conservation
Plan (HCP) permit as part of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process. The
future remediation will require additional permitting actions to ensure compliance with the San
Joaquin County Multi-Species Habitat Conservation and Open Space Plan before ground-
disturbing activities can begin, including ground-disturbing activities for well location or
destruction activities. Geosyntec will provide a plan for well maintenance activities in the Landfill
Area after the construction activities have been completed and the permits for ground-disturbing
activities have been obtained. The Port will provide progress updates as its development partner
(Stockton Soda Ash Port LLC)begins their rail line construction.
2.1 Well Re-Survey Activities
Monitoring wells EW-001,EW-002,W-025,W-091,W-093,W-094,W-096,W-097,W-248, and
W-276 are planned to be resurveyed as part of the 2025 well maintenance activities since the
existing TOC elevation data is greater than 10 years old and wells are planned to be gauged in
2025.Wells planned to be resurveyed will be surveyed by a licensed professional with a horizontal
datum based on North American Data of 1983 (NAD83) and vertical datum based on North
American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).
RRI 2025 Groundwater Monitoring Work Plan 10 May 2025
