Geosyntec
consultants
4. INVESTIGATIVE DERIVED WASTE
The soil cuttings and well casing removed from the ground as part of the well destruction activities
will be stored in 55-gallon drums or bins, the soil cuttings will be sampled and profiled, temporarily
stored on-site. A composite soil sample will be collected of the investigation derived waste (IDW)
soil cuttings and sent to Eurofins Environment Testing Calscience Inc. for analysis of the
following:
• Metals by USEPA Method 6020
• TPH as gasoline and diesel by USEPA Method 8260B and 801513, respectively
• VOCs by USEPA Method 8260B
• PFAS by USEPA Method 5375
• Dioxins and furans by USEPA Method 8290
Decontamination fluids and purged groundwater from sampling and well development will be
collected in 55-gallon drums, profiled for waste characteristics, and temporarily stored on-site. A
composite water sample will be collected from the IDW water generated and sent to Eurofins
Environment Testing Calscience Inc. for analysis of the following:
• Metals by USEPA Method 6020
• TPH as gasoline and diesel by USEPA Method 8260B and 8015B, respectively
• VOCs by USEPA Method 8260B
The IDW, once characterized, will be removed from the Site a California-licensed waste hauler,
and disposed of at an appropriately licensed facility in accordance with state and federal
regulations. Once the IDW has been accepted for disposal by an appropriate licensed disposal
facility, the Port or an authorized representative of the Port will sign the waste manifest and the
IDW drums will be transported off-site by American Integrated Services of Wilmington,
California, to the disposal facility. The IDW is anticipated to be nonhazardous and therefore is
expected to be disposed of at the Crosby and Overton facility in Long Beach, California(for water
IDW)or the Potrero Hills Landfill in Suisun, California(for soil IDW). If the soil or water profiles
as hazardous, it is anticipated that it would be accepted and disposed of at the Kettleman Hills
Facility in Kettleman City, California(a permitted Class I and III landfill).
5 Since the well destructions are occurring in Site 3, historical soil contamination (PFAS and dioxins and furans)
require additional IDW analytical testing prior to off-site disposal.
RRI 2025 Groundwater Monitoring Work Plan 16 May 2025
