Close Vault Lids, Pit Covers or <br />Enclosure Door <br />- Pinch Points <br />- Sharp objects <br />- Slips/Trips/Falls <br />- Sprains and Strains <br />1. Be aware of hand placement when replacing lids, covers, <br />metal grating or doors. Do not place hands between objects that <br />could cause pinching or crushing. Wear level 3 cut resistant <br />gloves. Use J-Hook tool or other mechanical means to move <br />metal grating. <br />2. Visually scan areas to be accessed, be aware of sharp edges <br />and corners of metal grating, steel or diamond plate doors and <br />covers. Do not put your hands or body close to or between sharp <br />edges. <br />3. Watch where you walk, be aware of uneven or slippery <br />surfaces, wear boots with adequate tread and a raised heel. <br />4. While picking up equipment lift with your legs and not your <br />back, keep a firm grip, keep load close to your body, use <br />mechanical means or "buddy" system if too awkward or weight <br />exceeds 50 lbs. Mechanical means (i.e. forklift or special tools). <br />Stop Work if lids, covers or metal grating cannot be lifted or <br />moved safely.
