Rigging Equipment - Falling Objects <br />- Faulty Equipment <br />- Heavy equipment hazards could be <br />present <br />- Moving parts of crane <br />- Personal Injury <br />- Slips/Trips/Falls <br />- Struck by Falling Load <br />The rigging of all equipment shall be performed by a qualified <br />rigger. The qualified rigger shall inspect all rigging equipment <br />prior to each lift, and any equipment found to be worn, damaged, <br />or defective shall be removed from service immediately. <br />Synthetic slings must not be used where the potential for the <br />webbing to be cut exists. Softeners shall be provided where <br />necessary to protect slings, regardless of type, against sharp <br />edges. <br />The responsible person must ensure that all shackles being used <br />are properly secured and in good conditions. <br />L <br />Use appropriate equipment <br />Ensure appropriate shackles are used and secured <br />7. Exclusion Zone - Falling Objects <br />- Heavy equipment hazards could be <br />present <br />- Inadequate communication <br />- Line-of-Fire <br />- Personal Injury <br />- Slips/Trips/Falls <br />- Struck by Falling Load <br />- Traffic hazard <br />- Unauthorized Entry <br />Exclusion zones should be established around cranes and <br />adjoining areas to stop people entering the area and risk being <br />injured by the crane or falling objects. The size of the exclusion <br />zone should be based on a risk assessment. <br />Where the exclusion zone crosses a public footpath or roadway <br />that needs to be closed or an overhead protective structure <br />erected you should seek approval from the relevant authority. <br />People should be safely directed to an alternative footpath.
