Hand Tool Use - Bodily Injury-Struck by falling tool <br />- Line-of-Fire <br />- Pinch Points <br />- Sharp Edges <br />- Sprains and Strains <br />- Heat Stress <br />- Remove battery prior of installing blade to tool <br />1. Be aware of hand placement at all times, do not place them <br />between objects that could cause pinching or crushing. Use <br />caution with tools equipped with jaws or pivot points. Wear cut <br />resistant gloves. <br />2. When working in hot weather take periodic breaks and drink <br />plenty of water. Watch for signs and symptoms of heat stress <br />such as headache, red or blotchy skin, nausea, dizziness, <br />weakness, irritability, confusion, thirst, heavy sweating. <br />3. Inspect all tools prior to use. Do not reach into utility/tool <br />boxes without looking when retrieving tool(s). Visually scan <br />inside tool boxes when looking as sharp edges could be present. <br />Broken or compromised tools are not permitted and should be <br />taken out of service Immediately. Never misuse a tool (such as a <br />screwdriver for a pry-bar). <br />4. Use proper body positioning when using hand tools and avoid <br />working f in cramped or awkward positions. Be aware of tools <br />that require repetitive motion and take periodic breaks to <br />prevent sprains or strains. Always select the right tool for the <br />job. <br />5. When using large wrenches push tool away from yourself <br />when loosening or tightening hardware. Never hang or stand on <br />wrenches OR employ the use of a cheater bars to gain more <br />leverage. <br />6. Do not place tools where the could potentially fall to a level <br />below. Use ropes to secure tools if working on elevated platform <br />such as a man lift. <br />M <br />3. Stow Tools Away - Pinch Points <br />- Sharp Edges <br />1. Do not place hands between objects that could cause pinching <br />or crushing, (beneath heavy tools or between spring-loaded tool <br />cabinet doors). <br />2.
