Revised: 01/31/2023 2
Job Steps Hazards Actions to Eliminate or Minimize Hazards RAC
3. Hourly Operations - Pinch Points
- Changing work environment
- Line-of-Fire
- Swing radius plus safe distance; work
zone
- Blind Spots
- Brush Fire
1. Use designated spotters when needed
2. Flag up when your immediate work zone becomes unsafe
(people encroach, etc.)
3. Stop all movement when uncertain of safety
4. Operator has final responsibility for results of operator
actions
5. Each movement should be deliberate
6. Ensure a Fire Extinguisher is charged and readily available
inside the cab of equipment, identify high risk/dry areas and
coordinate pre-soaking with water prior to operating.
M
Pre-Soak Dry areas with Water
Keep Fire Extinguisher Readily Available
4. Vertical motion of arms,
buckets, masts
- Pinch Points
- Striking of objects
- Striking electric lines
- Too close to electric lines, allowing an
arc of electricity
- Inadvertent pulling up of cables, wires,
etc.
- Line of Fire (causing debris to fly
forward, aligned with arm and bucket)
- Over Reaching or Rollover
1. Do not move any part of equipment to within the arc distance
of power lines (see OSHA safe distances in HASP).
2. Think through plan of action before any vertical motion.
3. Visually verify that the entire path is clear.
4. Do not strike lines, cables or anything else; LOOK UP
5. Be aware of anything that might be hooked onto any bucket
or tooth, before pulling up
6. Be aware of any people, vehicles. equipment, etc. in the Line-
of-Fire, before making any moves.
7. Perform a Mental Risk Assessment (MRA) before each move.
Be aware that over reaching can cause equipment to tilt forward
or roll if operating on uneven terrain.
M
NC-25-1137 Tiwana & Sons
1210 East Hammer Lane, Stockton, CA 95210
