Scope <br /> This SOP applies to all personnel involved in the post-fumigation cleanup process using <br /> aluminum/magnesium phosphide products. <br /> II. Person Responsible <br /> • Certified Applicator/Supervisor: Ensures all personnel are properly trained, provided with <br /> appropriate PPE, and that disposal is conducted in accordance with manufacturer instructions <br /> and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. <br /> • Operatives/Crew: Follow this SOP, wear appropriate PPE, and handle all spent material with <br /> due care. <br /> III. Equipment Needed/Form Needed <br /> • NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection if exposure to dust is likely or phosphine <br /> concentration exceeds Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL). <br /> • Appropriate work uniform and eye protection (safety glasses/goggles). <br /> IV. Procedure <br /> Hazardous Waste Classification: Spilled, partially reacted, or unused Fumi-Cel and Fumi-Strip <br /> fumigants are considered hazardous wastes under federal regulations. <br /> Wet Deactivation Method: <br /> Place the spilled material into a container filled with water, ensuring the fumigant is <br /> submerged. <br /> Allow the mixture to stand for approximately six hours. <br /> After deactivation, the mixture can be safely disposed of at a sanitary landfill or other <br /> approved sites. <br /> Do not use detergents for deactivation. <br /> Disposal of Residual Dust: <br /> Small amounts of spent residual dust may be disposed of on-site by burial or spreading <br /> over the land surface away from inhabited buildings. <br /> Residuals can also be collected and disposed of at a sanitary landfill, incinerator, or other <br /> approved sites. <br /> Packaging and Transport: <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
