Soil vapor samples will be collected from existing and newly installed soil gas probes as noted in Section
3.2.2. Soil gas samples will be sealed, labelled, and transported under chain-of-custody protocols to a
California certified laboratory to be analyzed for the following:
• VOCs via EPA Method TO-15; and
• Fixed gases, including helium, methane, oxygen, and carbon dioxide via ASTM Method D-1946.
4.2.5 Indoor Air Sampling
Two indoor, one duplicate, and two outdoor ambient air samples will be collected from the former Quality
Cleaners suite; three indoor, one duplicate and one outdoor ambient air samples will also be collected from
the supermarket building. Sample collection will be conducted in accordance with the DTSC Advisory—Active
Soil Gas Investigations with controls taken to ensure that indoor air quality is representative of actual
conditions. Air samples will be collected in 6-liter Summa canisters equipped with stainless steel flow
controllers, calibrated to maintain constant flow over an eight-hour sampling period. To ensure representative
air conditions, all windows and doors will be closed, and the air conditioning system will not be operating at
least 48-hours prior to sample collection. Please refer to Figure 5 for proposed indoor and outdoor/ambient
air sampling locations.
Indoor and outdoor ambient air samples will be analyzed for VOCs via EPA Method TO-15.
4.3 Decontamination
All sampling equipment will either be new and dedicated to the sampling location or cleaned in a solution of
laboratory grade detergent and rinsed with distilled water or steam cleaned prior to use. Sample personnel
will utilize dedicated disposable gloves and other similar field sampling hygiene practices to minimize the
chance for cross-contamination between sampling locations.
4.4 Waste Management
Investigation derived waste (IDW)will be temporarily stored on-site in approved 55-gallon drums throughout
the field portion of the investigation. IDW will be sampled and analyzed according to the requirements of the
selected disposal facility.
Following receipt of the analytical results, IDWs will be disposed upon the generator's selection of the
disposal facility, obtaining an EPA Identification Number (if needed), signing waste manifests, and
determining waste characteristics and classification.
4.5 Sample Handling
4.5.1 Sample Containers
Groundwater samples will be collected into 40-mL VOAs with hydrochloric acid (HCI) or other preservatives
as provided by the laboratory.
Soil gas probe and SVE well samples will be collected via Teflon sampling tubing into batch-certified,
laboratory-provided Summa canisters with dedicated flow controllers for each sample.
3989.0001S101/R Revised Data Gap Investigation Work Plan I ROUX 110
