A current list of emergency contact numbers is included in the Site-Specific Emergency Information at the
beginning of this HASP.
4.5 Site Work Zones
The SOW does not require the implementation of work zones; however, should the need arise, this section
provides details for the proper execution of work zones at this Site.
The Site is divided into three (3) major zones, described below. These zones are characterized by the likely
presence or absence of biological, chemical, or physical hazards and the activities performed within them.
Zone boundaries are clearly marked at all times and the flow of personnel among the zones is controlled.
The work areas are monitored and adjusted accordingly for changing conditions in order to protect personnel
and clean areas. Whenever boundaries are adjusted, zone markings are also changed, and workers are
immediately notified of the change.
Exclusion Zone
The area where contamination exists is the Exclusion Zone (EZ). All areas where excavation and handling
of contaminated materials take place are considered part of the EZ. This zone will be clearly delineated by
chain link fencing, caution tape, cones, or other effective barriers, as necessary. The zone delineation
markings may be opened in areas for varying lengths of time to accommodate equipment operation or
specific construction activities. The SHSO may establish more than one EZ where different levels of
protection may be employed or where different hazards exist. Personnel are not allowed in the EZ without:
• A buddy (co-worker);
• Required minimum level PPE;
• Medical authorization;
• Training certification; and,
• Requirement to be in the zone.
Contamination Reduction Zone
A Contamination Reduction Zone (CRZ) is established between the exclusion zone and the support zone.
The CRZ contains the Contamination Reduction Corridor (CRC) and provides an area for decontamination
of personnel and equipment. The CRZ will be used for general Site entry and egress in addition to access
for heavy equipment and emergency support services. Personnel are not allowed in the CRZ without:
• A buddy (co-worker);
• Appropriate PPE;
• Medical authorization;
• Training certification; and,
• Requirement to be in the zone.
Support Zone
The Support Zone (SZ) is an uncontaminated area that will be the field support area for the Site operations.
The SZ will contain the project vehicles and provides for field team communications and staging for
3989.0001 S.104/HSP Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan I ROUX 111
