Sample containers will be obtained from the laboratory, which will assure that they are clean or new,free of
contaminants:
a. Summa canisters(soil gas),
b. Tedlar® bag(soil gas), and
c. Hydrochloric acid (HCI)pre-preserved VOA vials(groundwater);
3. Polyethylene bailer or decontaminated stainless steel bailer;
4. Temperature blanks will be obtained from the laboratory for each cooler;
5. Ziploc plastic bags;
6. Large plastic trash bags;
7. Insulated cooler and ice;
8. Deionized water;
9. Non-phosphate detergent;
10. Bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts for sample packaging;
11. Self-adhesive custody seals;
12. Glass fiber and strapping tape;
13. 55-gallon steel drums for storage of investigation-derived wastes;
14. Paper and cloth towels;
15. Isopropyl alcohol; and
16. Field sampling sheets and chain-of-custody forms.
Drilling equipment will be provided by the subcontractor, which may include(but is not limited to)the following: hand
auger, Direct Push Technology(DPT)drill rig or Hollow Stem Auger(HSA)drill rig, drive sampler, extension rods,and
stainless-steel sample tubes.
3.2.6 Sample Analysis
USEPA-approved analytical methods will be used to produce definitive-level data for use in the quantitative risk
assessment. Screening-level data will be obtained from sub-slab soil vapor samples, outdoor soil vapor samples,
indoor and ambient air samples, and from groundwater samples if encountered.
Groundwater samples will be collected via grab groundwater collection. Groundwater sample analytical results will be
considered screening-level data due to the method of sample collection, even though USEPA-approved analytical
methods will be used.
Soil gas samples will be collected via permanent soil gas and sub-slab soil vapor pins.The selected subcontractor
will perform active soil gas sampling and all samples will be analyzed at the selected laboratory.The SOP for active
soil gas investigations is presented in the Programmatic QAPP.
Offsite soil gas, sub-slab, and indoor air analytical services will be provided by a laboratory that is accredited by the
ELAP.The selected laboratory is Eurofins Air Toxics Laboratory in Folsom, California..The Laboratory quality
assurance manual and SOPS are presented in Appendix C.The laboratories will be instructed to report estimated
values, i.e., between the method detection limit and reporting limit,with a"J"qualifier.
The following analytical methods will be used for the samples collected under this DI. Full analyte lists and laboratory
reporting limits are presented in the Programmatic QAPP.
Prepared for: Department of Toxic Substances Control AECOM
17
