SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT AND SOIL SAMPLING <br /> Soil borings will be advanced using a van mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing <br /> unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings <br /> using a hydraulic hammer to drive soil and groundwater sampling tools to specified <br /> depths. <br /> Soil samples will be collected for laboratory analysis from all four borings at five-foot <br /> intervals between 5 and 20 feet bsg. Soil samples will be collected utilizing a 1.45-inch <br /> Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with a two-foot acetate liner. <br /> For sample collection, a selected portion of the liner will be cut and covered with Teflon <br /> sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be <br /> placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody <br /> procedure to a CELAP-certified laboratory. Samples will be analyzed for the <br /> constituents listed in Section 3.2. Each sample will be labeled with boring designation, <br /> depth, time, date and sampler's initials. Soils encountered in the borings will be visually <br /> classified by AGE personnel in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System <br /> (USCS). Additionally, soil samples will be field-screened for the presence of volatile <br /> organic compounds using an organic vapor meter (OVM), equipped with photo- <br /> ionization detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobut ylene. <br /> 4.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> All non-disposable sampling equipment will be triple-rinsed in a solution of Alconox prior <br /> to advancement of each boring. Rinseate generated during drilling activities will be <br /> containerized in properly labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55- <br /> gallon drums and stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives <br /> will be evaluated at a later date based on laboratory results. <br /> 4.3. BORING ABANDONMENTS <br /> Following borehole advancements, Portland cement (grout mix) will be utilized to <br /> backfill each soil/groundwater sampling borehole utilizing a tremie pipe. The SJCEHD <br /> will be given the opportunity to inspect the grout mix prior to backfilling activities. <br />
